If baking is an art, great baking is a science.
And great baking without gluten?
That’s basically magic.
And every good magician needs the right tools.
What Do I Need for Gluten Free Baking?
Gluten free baking is a law unto itself. To get it right, you need to follow the instructions. To the letter.
Which means that you really need to weigh and measure everything properly.
The essential equipment for gluten free baking, therefore, is a digital scale and a set of spoon measures.
Thats it. The number 1, most important piece of kit you need to bake up gluten free goodies is a simple digital scale.
You probably already have one. If not, you can get the exact scale I use for baking in my shop below.
Do I really need specific equipment for gluten free baking?
If you (or someone in your household) is celiac, or seriously allergic or intolerant to gluten, you may want to buy a set of specific gluten-free equipment for them, to avoid cross-contamination (washing everything well in a dishwasher, and drying with a clean towel before use should be fine in the short-term).
Equally, if you don’t operate a totally gluten free household, make sure to thoroughly wash all surfaces before baking, to avoid cross-contamination.
If you’ll be baking regularly for someone with celiac disease, its a good idea to build up a set of non-gluten baking equipment (and other kitchen utensils)
